Thompson Rivers University offers a distance graduate Certificate in Child and Youth Mental Health. Available only to Canadian distance learners, enrollees must hold Bachelor's or Master's degree from a related discipline such as child and youth care, nursing, social Work or psychology. It is expected that students are actively working with child and youth mental health issues at the time of enrollment.

The graduate Certificate in Child and Youth Mental Health was developed to address the specific needs of British Columbia families dealing with mental health issues. If you are not currently working in the child and youth mental health field, you must complete the internship requirement in British Columbia.

The Child and Youth Mental Health Certificate is made up of 15 mandatory credits and is equivalent to one semester of university. The academic courses are completed entirely by distance online learning over three semesters and there are specific start and end dates.

3 Credits, Context and Theory in Child and Youth Mental Health Practice.3 credits, Assessment for Intervention in Child and Youth Mental Health.4 credits Intervention in Child and Health Mental Health.4 credits, Clinical Internship1 credit, Capstone, developing plans for future education through professional development.The certificate focuses on diverse family life in British Columbia, including cross cultural and First Nations family issues. Cases of real interventions are studied, and students plan and prepare detailed treatment and action plans for families affected by mental health issues.
