May 23, 2008, Newsletter Issue #69: Jobs and Careers after the Bachelor of General Studies

Tip of the Week

The Bachelor of General Studies is a self-directed and designed degree. Universities offering a Bachelor of General Studies provide a learning outcome section, advising students of potential careers available to them. For example, a student interested in pursuing freelance writing would be advised to take a number of English courses, along with geography, humanities and language courses.
The Bachelor of General Studies, which is a 3-year degree, is not designed to allow direct entry into graduate programs. Students who wish to apply to grad school programs will have to add an extra year of specialization to their Bachelor of General Studies to gain admittance.
There are distance graduate programs such as the Master's of Interdisciplinary Studies that will accept the 3-year Bachelor of General Studies for admittance.
