The Bachelor of General Studies degree consists of 120 credits, depending on the university. Open universities allow students to take six months to finish a 3-credit course and 12 months to complete a 6-credit or two semester course. As long as a student remains active and in good financial and academic standing, no deadlines for degree completion are given.

At Bachelor of General Studies involves:
Six credits of English at the university level45 upper level credits, from years two and three of the degreeOf the 45 upper level credits, only 15 may be taken from the Applied Studies section, which includes fine arts, performing arts, technology and in some instances education and administration69 elective credits, which may be taken in any form from years one, two and three of the Bachelor of General Arts programThe largest part of the Bachelor of General Arts is the electives section. Through the electives, students are able to self-direct their educational interests and career goals. Although there is no requirement, in the amount of first, second or third degree electives a student must take, some electives do have pre-requisites in the second and third years.
