A 30-credit Certificate of General Studies is offered by Thompson Rivers University. Completed through Open Learning, the Certificate of General Studies is often used by students unsure of whether they wish to pursue a Bachelor's degree with a major or the Bachelor of General Studies. There are no time limitations to complete the Certificate of General Studies. Students, who due to previous academic standing, are unable to enroll in specific Bachelor programs, may use the Certificate of General Studies to gain admittance to other distance degrees through the Canadian Virtual University.
